Strong Customer Authentication for Skrill Accounts

Strong Customer Authentication #SCA is a new European regulatory requirement that will step in to force on September 24, 2019. A tighter verification process aims to make online payments securer.

Skrill will ask its users for additional authentication when signing in or completing a transaction. This will be done via SMS (you will receive a 6-digit code on your mobile) or by a verification link sent to your email.

Thus, two information points become critically important: your primary email address and your mobile number. Make sure your information is up to date, so you don’t face any inconvenience after the implementation date.

The best advice at this point is to edit your Skrill account’s information, especially if you did not register a phone number.

Make sure you review your personal information by logging into your Skrill account, after which you go to Personal details > Edit. Skrill will verify your phone number through a 6-digit SMS code before saving that number to your account. The other option for authentication is via the primary email address.

Note that if you are unable to use a mobile phone for authentication, you also have the option to perform the authentication by clicking on a verification link sent to your primary email address. Again, it is worth making sure that you have the right email address saved in the account settings.

If you wish to change your email information, you can do so by:

  • In the Settings section of your Skrill account, click on Personal details.
  • Add a new email address.
  • Click on the Verify link next to your email address.
  • Skrill will send you an automated email to your registered email containing a verification link, which is valid for 15 minutes. Complete the verification by clicking on the link.
  • After having a secondary email in your Personal details, chose the option Make Primary to change your secondary to primary email address.

Strong Customer Authentication is an EU regulation so that it will affect all Skrill accounts.

The authentication will be required when you login, make a deposit, transfer P2P, and withdraw. However, Neteller will not implement the SMS verification at this point.
